In 1893 a mansion was born, today known as the Fusion Suites. Many, many years later in 1990, this old, world class mansion was converted into four beautiful, luxurious suites. Recently, in 2006, it was renovated with a modern flair, but still keeping its authenticity of this timeless mansion. Fusion Suites Number 40 is located on Roemer Visscherstraat, the street that apparently still has its 19th century building frontages. Approximately five houses down you will find “Seven Country Houses” which are built and designed with seven different countries in mind: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia, The Netherlands and England. No wonder this place has been rated #1 on TripAdvisor’s Amsterdam hotel reviews, the location is perfect and Fusion’s staff offer the warmest greetings, plus go above and beyond to make your trip the most enjoyable.

When you first walk into the room you will notice how elegantly designed, yet convenient, each room is. Fresh cut flowers and a bottle of wine might even be awaiting your arrival. Having only four suites, each room has exquisite detail. The bathrooms have either a free standing bathtub or a whirlpool (there’s that modern flair!). There is free wifi available, a mini refrigerator and safe (all major plus’ in my book!) Breakfast is made each morning and you can enjoy it in the kitchen along with the other visitors that may be staying with you during your vacation.

If you’ve done your research on places to go in Amsterdam, you know that the place to be is Vondelpark. Located in the heart of the city and often referred to as “The Central Park” of Amsterdam, Vondelpark has it all! Throughout this urban, public park you will see many restaurants, a museum, theater and a playground. During the summer, Vondelpark offers free concerts on Friday evenings. And it’s only a 10 minute walking distance from Fusion! Also within walking distance are the best places to go for the nightlife scene, Leidseplein! This place is surrounded with restaurants, bars, dance clubs, cafes and much more. There’s a little bit of entertainment for everyone in your family!

Some people say that The Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam is the quintessential 5-star hotel in the city. Others might argue against that bold statement but I’m not going to argue about anything today. Instead I’m going to focus on the positive aspects of this charming hotel. While it isn’t directly in the city center, it remains to be highly worth your while to stay here, nevertheless.

It is an enormous and most unique hotel, which in its former life was a shipping house built in 1928. Much later, it was converted into hotel (in 2007). You might notice that this hotel isn’t like any other in Amsterdam. Borrowing its architectural style from Art Nouveau (Art Deco), the gorgeous décor from way back when will urge you to examine and revel in everything about it from the basement to its upper most floors.

It’s within very close proximity to the train station, which is around a five minute stroll. The international airport, Schiphol Airport, is only about 18 kilometers (11 miles) away.

Do not leave the hotel without taking full advantage of the spa. The spa is situated in the basement area and is absolutely free of charge. What to do? Good question! There are three saunas having different temperatures. There’s a steam bath to sweat it out and purge yourself from the toxins that accumulate in your system over a period of time. The whirlpool, swimming pool and the weight room are also free of charge and are calling your name!
